"Camelot" on "Live From Lincoln Center." (thanks to [info]dancinghorse for the brain-kick on the proper name)

That music just.... every time I hear the overture I go to a seriously happy place.*

And Gabriel Byrne as Arthur? Uh-HUH. (the singing voice may not be magnificent but I can live with that for every other aspect so far... he makes a totally adorable Arthur.)

King Arthur (Gabriel Byrne), Guenevere (Marin Mazzie) and Sir Lancelot (Nathan Gunn, in leather pants, as he ought be). Also: Pellinore (Christopher Lloyd), and Morgan le Fey (Fran Drescher)

Oh! Thank you! I had seen the listing, spaced it, checked just now and we have it on PBS as "Live from Lincoln Center" on Sunday afternoon. My DVR is now primed and waiting.

I think I must see this. If only because the idea of Fran Drescher as Morgan scares me.

Her, I'm not buying (the characterization, not her portrayal of that characterization). But Mordred? Oh dear. Oh dearie dearie dear....

My husband is now singing the music from Camelot in the Drescher "Nanny" voice. Pardon me, there must be some committing of illegal violent acts now...

recipe?

Take half a stick of unsalted butter, bring it to room temperature in a small glass bowl. Squeeze the juice of one lime into the bowl. Blend until smooth. Shred fresh sage leaves (about 5?) into a very fine mess [yes, that is a technical term]. Blend into lime-butter mixture. Chill. Use.




You can make flavored butters with pretty much any mashable ingredient. I started with garlic and went on from there. The trick is to use it quickly.

Oh. Hrm. I wonder if garlic-lime butter would go well on popcorn.....


My instinctive reaction to that goes sort of like oh hai thar, so I bet yes. *g*

I'll let you know. Might not be until we start getting fresh sweet corn in, though.

I love Camelot specifically and musicals generally.

I enjoy most musicals (even JFK The Musical) and I've seen Camelot (the one with Richard Harris) - can't say it's among my favourites, but that line up sounds good.

I'm not much of a fan of musicals overall (especially when they try to make movies of them) but Caamelot was a significant part of my childhood, for some reason, and as I said, the music just works for me.

The line-up was a bit of stunt-casting, since this is a benefit performance, but where the NYT reviewer saw uncertainty in GB's performance I was willing to write some of that off to his portrayal of Arthur as more Wart and less King (which makes sense from an actor's POV). He does need to relax and have more fun with the singing, though.

One of the delights of my life was seeing, on my very first trip to London, Richard Harris in Camelot.

Even then, I could tell he was phoning in the performance. I don't care.

Damn! The local PBS finally airs something not geared for the Lawrence Welk crowd and I totally miss it! I'd watch it for Christopher Lloyd alone, much less GB and and a man in leather pants. Hope they replay it sometime soon.
