Got a phone call today that... let's just say it really pissed me off. I would have sworn there was nothing that could make me laugh.

And then this appeared in the f-list. Muppets FTW, as always.

Reason #13 why you should buy FLESH AND FIRE
trouble? moi?

Yeah, it's a good book. It may even be a really good book. And you know you or the fantasy lover in your household needs a copy.

But there's another reason to buy the book that has nothing to do with me

Y'see, as you may or may not know, mine editor has a Thing about Hello Kitty.

No, really.

So I told her that if we got on any national bestseller lists, I'd hand-deliver a bottle of Hello Kitty sparking wine.

Yes, really.

And yes, if this happens, there WILL be video. And me holding my nose as I hand it over, because ODG the things we do to make our editors happy...

So, we're sitting in the bar last night, as we do, and I mention how awkward it makes me feel, responding to tweets from Famous People (aka showrunners, actors, etc), and then wondering if they'll respond. Because that seems weirdly stalkery, doesn't it?

And a friend says "are you responding to every one of their tweets?"

"Oh hell no. Just occasionally, when they say something particularly comment-worthy."

"So, that's hardly stalkery, is it? I mean, they're on Twitter, so they're hoping you'll follow, yeah? And you have people who respond to your tweets, don't you? People you don't know, who follow you because they read your books?"

"That's different!" I say.

Why? Um... Because it is? Because... I have no idea why it is. I still feel oddly stalkery-awkward with this presumption of talking to Someone Famous I don't know (you famous people I do know are all fair game).

I still refuse to tweet to imaginary characters*, though (sorry, Rick Castle. You'll have to social network without me)

*The advantage to having fictional characters who are high-tech-adverse - nobody expects them to have a Twitter account or their own on-line presence. The cats, however, have been contemplating it...

1. It's Jackie Kessler's fault... she started talking about the remake of Jaws, and asked "what's next?" My answer: A remake of The Sound of Music. With rappers.

"The hills, the hills, oh yeah the hills they are a-Live, they're alive, come on, y'all say it 'cause you know it, uh-huh, the hills are a-Live with music..."

I'd say I'm sorry but I'm really not. [I thought about going hardcore but there are delicate flowers and underage kids who read this blog...]

2. Haynes to publish Wallace & Gromit manuals!

3. "An overwhelming majority of publishers believe that e-books should be less expensive than the printed version, but only 15% support Amazon.com flat-rate of $9.99 on front-list titles". Hrm. I'd like to see it at least 25% cheaper, but people really do need to understand that e-books yes really do cost $ to produce and, perhaps more to the point, are considered along with all other editions in the overall costing of a book. Discuss in comments.

4. I am taking Senior Feline to the vet this morning. She used to be pretty good about that...not so much anymore. Pray for me...

5. After that, I will be off to see Bruuuuuce at Giants Stadium, where it is reported he will perform the entirely of "Born to Run." I have sort of mixed feelings about this, but the fact that this means I will get "Meeting Across the River" makes me a very very very happy camper. [trivia point: B2R was released on my birthday]. I may or may not Tweet the concert, depending on how crazy it gets and how cold my hands are...

and a bonus! 6th thing, to remind you that the voting is open for the feline picspam caption contest, and the open thread is still running, downstream...

Sometimes I crack myself up. Sometimes I'm already cracked.

Favorite line from new blog post over on BookView Cafe this morning: "...the “Sez you” school of historical accuracy."

Second favorite line: "doing What Editors Do on them (a complicated process that pretty much boils down to “I broke it for you, now fix it better.”)."

Noted, in passing, the best-ever SG-1 fic-title EVEAH: "Like Everything, It Happened to Jack"

(I have no idea what the story itself is, but it almost doesn't matter, after that)

On side of waffle box: calories per waffle: 90. 2 waffles per serving. Total calories per serving: 190.

Um..... Math: ur doin' it rong.

EtA: Multigrain waffles and aged Kashkaval cheese FT(breakfast)W.
-------------------------------------------

And...that's all I got. Leverage rocked, but I spent most of my time last night talking/tweeting about the President's speech, and CongressIdiot Rudeniks, so my thoughts are still scattered, and I expect them to be Even More Scattered later on, since I have tix to see A STEADY RAIN tonight.

Yes, the new play staring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman. Yes, that play. If the acting holds up to what I've heard of the writing, it should be a fascinating, if depressing, evening. I'll let you know tomorrow.

It was Mr. Lake who came up with the Wolverine/Miss Piggy rough trade visual.

I just corrected him as to the use of 'slash' in that context.

The massive run on brain bleach re: the accompanying Wolverine/Fozzie reference is therefore his fault, not mine.

[9:49] newguydave: k
[9:49] lauraanne: hey dave
[9:49] tamm: hey
[9:49] lauraanne: that's purely calumny. I have never had relations with that zombie.
[9:49] tamm: and how dare you, the proper term is Differently Ambulatory Deceased
[9:49] merry: you were just friends?
[9:50] lauraanne: Actually I think the preferred term over here is Differently Animated Americans
[9:50] tamm: which leads to all sorts of confusion when the news talks about "DAD's rioted today at the hospital'

In other news, the heat wave may have officially broken today, but it's still Damn Hot. I have heat-sleepies, which is making this edit...problematic. Ugh. [EtA: Strawberry sorbet and an icepack to the rescue!]

From the Leverage blog (Kung Fu Monkey):

@Anna: My question is, how much more Hardison/Parker unresolved sexual tension (on Hardison's part at least) can we expect to see this season? And does it bother you that more fans (or so it seems) are shipping Eliot/Parker?

More fans are shipping Nate/Eliot. Let's be honest here.

*falls off chair laughing because OMG so true*

(they're both very pretty, very damaged, and plausible as alpha or beta. So I can see the appeal, even if you're not into slash)

Well, Flesh And Fire has been Klausnered, and, um...

Yeah. Apparently her desire to stretch for every possible wine pun (of which, btw, there are none in the book -- it's not that kind of story) made her comprehension of the plot even worse than usual [in fact, it reads like it was translated through babelfish out of the original Punnish). I enclose for your bemusement, but I'd advise against actually reading it as, y'know, a review

my iTunes is borked, there are too many crazy-stupid people walking around free, I'm running on way too little sleep, and I'm stuck on the scene I really wanted to work on.

So I made a few icon-shaped objects instead.
